  • Pediatric Gastroenterology
“This guide, edited by me, is the result of the work and experience of a large group of employees of the Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition Clinic at the Medical University of Warsaw, which I recently headed. We have strived to incorporate modern, practical knowledge useful in the daily work of pediatricians, not just gastroenterologists. The guide has new chapters and topics, including detailed treatment of anorexia nervosa, which is increasingly encountered in general practice departments. For readers who are short on time, I recommend, as before, the chapter entitled “From Symptom to Diagnosis, or a Diagnostic Shortcut.” Prof. Piotr Albrecht, MD, PhD. This publication is intended for gastroenterologists, pediatricians, family physicians, and all practicing physicians interested in pediatric gastroenterology.

  • The ketogenic diet in the treatment of epilepsy. Guide

The book “The Ketogenic Diet in the Treatment of Epilepsy.” “The Guide” is not a scholarly work. Its goal is to help parents and caregivers of children with epilepsy understand the characteristics and principles of the ketogenic diet and learn how to prepare ketogenic meals. This book may also be helpful for doctors and dietitians who specialize in the treatment of epilepsy.
In Poland, approximately 1% of the population suffers from epilepsy. Most people are able to control their seizures with medication. Unfortunately, about 30% of patients have been diagnosed with drug-resistant epilepsy, for which drug therapy does not produce the expected results. For many of them, a ketogenic diet may prove to be the solution. Currently, this therapy is mainly used to treat children. About 50% of patients treated with this method experience significant benefits—complete cessation of seizures, a significant reduction in seizures, or improved daily functioning, even with only a slight reduction in seizures. Recent studies and clinical observations demonstrate its effectiveness in treating certain metabolic disorders.

The ketogenic diet must be followed under the close supervision of a doctor and a dietitian who specialize in this treatment method.
