The author examines the main themes covered by “Gazeta Wyborcza” concerning the Church’s role in Polish life, including its involvement in politics, the concordat and the issue of abortion. Drawing on an extensive body of factual evidence and illustrating his arguments with numerous quotations, he studied hundreds of articles across 7,000 issues of the newspaper published since 1989.
Among the questions Artur Dmochowski seeks to answer are: What connects Adam Michnik and Jerzy Urban? Which of them is more effective, and why? What methods do opponents of the Church use in the media? What lies behind the widely publicized pedophilia and financial scandals?
Publication date: June 3, 2014.

GW is not an ordinary newspaper. It is an institution pursuing a mission. That is why I was surprised, for example, when clergy wrote for a publication that fights Christianity. Yet my opinions were often dismissed as unfounded prejudice. Artur Dmochowski’s book shows that they were not prejudices.
Jan Pospieszalski
The “people from Czerska Street” remain mentally stuck in communist-era Poland, and their years-long assault on the Polish Church is also an attack on the foundations of the state. That is how I understand the central message of Artur Dmochowski’s courageous and valuable book.
Wojciech Reszczyński
Dogmatists and fanatics cannot describe reality (and cynics have no intention of doing so). To achieve their goals, they resort to insinuation and manipulation, replacing facts with their own assumptions or prejudices. In his exceptionally well-documented book, Artur Dmochowski perceptively analyzes the anatomy and selective methods of GW’s reporting on the Church.
Jan Maria Jackowski
Looking at contemporary Poland, we often ask how this or that could have happened. “Gazeta Wyborcza’s Church” is an almost clinical analysis of a phenomenon that systematically poisons our minds. The author reveals a process that many of us may not previously have noticed, one that undermines the foundations of our identity.
Mariusz Pilis
